Drawing From Memory with Dave Harris
On the first and third Mondays of each month, Colleen Thompson and other local comedians host a drawing competition, asking you to draw things such as, but not limited to, your favourite cartoon character, significant cultural moments, album covers, and whatever else our hosts feel like throwing at you.
The catch? You must draw everything from memory within 10 minutes, and absolutely zero references are allowed. Once you’re done, our hosts will round up your submissions, pick their favourites, and share their thoughts on the best (and politely roast the worst). Sounds like a good time, right? We thought so too.
Plus, all day happy hour. This means $5 beers. Not bad, eh?
In Addition! This week we’re being joined by Bisou social club!

Van Jazz 2026 : Diles Que No Me Maten Infidelity
For Diles que no me maten (Tell them not to kill me in Spanish, named for a story by Mexican author Juan Rulfo), every note is a small step into the unknown. The five-piece Mexico City band have always operated on a first-thought, best-thought basis, drawing on a jam-based, krautrock philosophy to craft intricate constructions of wiry art rock spiked with bluesy balladry and poetic mysticism.
While their fourth album Escrito en Agua (Writ in Water) is their most consciously crafted and accessible to date, their founding principle of slow, wide-eyed exploration is alive and well. Founded by brothers Raúl (drums) and Gerardo (guitar) Ponce in 2017 in a CDMX scene set to bubble over, Diles bonded over a shared improvisational language that grew more complex and fluid with each revelatory rehearsal and electric live performance. Together with the Ponces, Andrés Lupone (bass), Jerónimo Elizondo-García (guitar, clarinet), and Jonás Derbez (vocals, saxophone) have crafted a sound that’s as unpredictable as it is distinct.

KARAOKE AT 8:00PM!
Ten years, countless beers, questionable karaoke performances and a whole lot of good times later, The American is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Located at the crossroads of Main Street, Chinatown, and Strathcona neighbourhoods, The American has evolved a lot over the years, but the best part has always been the people who walk through the door. This party is really a thank-you to everyone who has supported us, worked with us, partied with us and helped make this place what it is.

CEREMONY
MODO-LIVE & THE PLANT presents...
CEREMONY
w/ Dry Socket & Verity Den
From the breakneck ferocity of their essential debut ‘Violence Violence‘, to their 2010 underground landmark ‘Rohnert Park’, to albums for venerable indie stalwart Matador Records and beyond, CEREMONY fearlessly and unalterably expanded the sonic, lyrical, and aesthetic possibilities of what could be considered “hardcore punk”, and left a deep, indelible mark on music that is more evident today than ever.
Their most recent album, the critically-acclaimed In The Spirit World Now, was released in 2019 on Relapse Records, and followed with 2022’s Vanity Spawned By Fear 12” single.

We started Besties because finding genuine queer community in this
city shouldn't feel impossible, and Vol. 1 proved the entire point:
people actually want real-life connection, we just needed an
intentional space to do it.
Massive love to the 50 of you who pulled up early for friend speed
dating last time. Setting that foundation from the jump completely
shifted the social energy for the entire night and carried right onto
the dance floor afterwards.
We’re back at The American to keep building this out. Whether this is
your first time coming through solo to meet someone new, or you’re
rolling in with your crew to expand the circle, this event is for you.
